The end of the story is... I mean, we get like all through the story we've been getting these little snippets of Augustus as a boy and his bad relationship with Julius Caesar. And he talks about how he saw two futures for Rome, Andrew. One where it sputtered and flared and went away after a few hundred years and one where it became the whole world and just grew until there was nothing left. The way for Rome to flourish forever is for it to never ever stop growing. Like he knows the one thing that he needs to do to make the end door. It's not an endless, but it's not a god.
