CHAPTER

How Do Bees Make Decisions?

Bees that are sanding positioned themselves at a very particular distance from other bees. Maybe it means that the bees get triggered by a threshold of concentration of the pheromone. Another thing we noticed is that there's a little bit of estochosticity to that process. So the bees have some probability, once they sense that a chemical concentration above a threshold, then maybe 50% of the time they stop sanding and 50% of them ignore it. That was kind of a proof of concept, that we found an interesting communication signal that really has a meaning. In that case, it's the global position of where the queen is.
