In the early seventh century, a new religion emerged in the arabian peninsula. Islam brought with it not just new religious practice s, but its own legal system. Over the following 200 years, Islamic law continued to evolve into a complex and nuance system. The system also known as cherea is now one of the world's most powerful laws. With me to discuss islamic law and its origins are hugh kennedy, professor of arabic in the school of oriental and african studies at the university of london.
