Frida Ghitis: Fichino was willing to stand up for Plato when Aristotle criticized him explicitly. She says his arguments in favor of the soul's immortality led to this being declared as official dogma by 1513. He believed, or spoke as if he believed, that Platonism could lend support to Christian faith, she says. Ghitis: Overall, his life's mission was nothing less than the resurrection of Platonic philosophy.
