When he was a teenager, David Walliams wanted to join the Royal Marines. He decided not to go straight to uni and instead took a year off from school. But when he got back home in New Zealand his dream of joining the army vanished. Instead he reread 1984 and realised that he didn't want to be a lawyer but an actor. The film has been hailed as one of the best films ever made by British cinema.
