Is There Hope in a Complex Adaptive System?

I would recommend the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as a starting point. I think we can spend another eight hours talking about book recommendations. Those of us who come from a mathematics engineering technical background or science background will benefit by reading about complex adaptive systems and the need for hope. It tells you that there is a rational basis for hope. Hope is not an irrational sentiment. Hope is a very rational thing to have. They are very hard to predict, certain kinds of things which are called emergent. If you run the same simulation five times, you'll get five different answers because things emerge along the way. Because things are emergent, hope is a very important thing to have
