Anna Montes and Marta Velasquez
During graduate school in Spain, Anna Montes met a young woman named Marta Velasquez. It turns out that Marta already had been recruited herself by the Cubans. In 1985, the two women traveled to New York to meet Marta's friend. This happened to be a Cuban intelligence officer. He made a formal pitch at this meal to Anna to become a spy. And Anna volunteers, essentially, she agrees.
