i was shocked by this communal community ethic, which is a very different way of organizing one's identity. Inm rica really has a problem with a kind of individualism that itsas thegin,. The quip goes, everyone trying to claim that they were born in a log cabin they built themselves. I don't think there's any kind of utopian perfect balance, you know, you go too radically one way or too radically the other way, and everything falls apart. And certainly the pandemic, it was a moment of coming to that realization for many people who hadn't real zed it earlier.
