Eugene's Suffering

i am curious about eugene's suffering. I mean, he is in so much pain, but i am not convinced that his suffering is because of his pain. It does come back to our brain, maybe, and how we habituate to our common circumstances. But the idea of arcadia, of this digital universe, does bring up this interesting idea that even the kind of psycho emotional pain could potentially be eradicated as well.
