The Dangers of War

John Keegan was probably the best English prose stylist, his generation. He had this mastery of I guess what the Romans called the Latin's called variatio. That means that the key to good writing is varying your sentence structure. You can have a one sentence paragraph followed by a whole page paragraph and the level of vocabulary and diction should be changeable. In other words, you wrote up the actual day of battle and the bad part of it and it's not sanitized. Then you can understand why people do what they do  in war.
