Did Petrov Have a False Alarm?
Stanislav Petrov had to decide. Was his instinct right or was the system right? In interviews, Stanislav would later say that he didn't know exactly why he made the call he did. He just went with his gut and maintained it was a false alarm. The Soviets weren't the only ones who had these kinds of false alarms. The Americans did too. Both sides relied on faulty technology to navigate the nuclear conundrum That is mutually assured destruction.
