The Horrors of the 18th Century
In the 18 fifties, people were legitimately worried about something happening them medically, then being mistaken for dead, and then being interred in the ground while still alive. We start to realize that there are many medical conditions that are treatable, that can make someone appear to be dead, and which they are not dead. How did society try to deal with these? The first is safety coffins. A waiting mortuary was x required by law in the german states and in some american cities. And a waiting mortuary is a building, often built on the edge of town, where, after some one is declared dead, their body is placed there for up to 72 hours
