If you want to really get under the skin of what's going on in English liberalism, begin with John Stuart Mill. He is actually quite readable, unlike some other authors. And his mentor and teacher who developed his name, I forget if it was just on the tip of my tongue: Jeremy Bentham. The idea that human beings have these fundamental rights which cannot be... They cannot be divorced from them as individuals.
