The Importance of Self-Awareness
May intends to show us that the more self-awareness a person has, the more alive he is. He says we shouldn't worry too much when we don't know what we want because our unconscious knows. Adleness often means the capacity not to act, which may be more difficult for most modern people than to do something. To be idle requires a strong sense of personal identity and brings new appreciation for being something rather than merely doing something.
