The Ethics of Freedom of Expression
One of the things that we are told today by the proprietors of what I call the virtue regime is that everyone is deeply racist. That means that there's nothing that you can read within punitive and pleasure because you will always be reading the work of a racist. Literature is all about looking on the inside. One of my favourite authors is Claude Hanson, who unfortunately is Norwegian writer when fortune in his later years had Nazi sympathies. Yet I have never found any trace of fascism in any of his books. But there is an ethical issue here. What if somebody like Ola Breyarig, the mass murderer from Norway writes a book as he has said he intends to do in prison
