Plenchiosaurs and the Impact of the Asteroid Strike
Plenciosaurs were surface dwelling air-breathing reptiles that lived in the tropical waters of the epicontinental seas and the tethys sea during the Cretaceous period, 144 to 65 million years ago. Seelacanth live in very deep water in only a few areas along the perimeter of the Indian Ocean from South Africa to Indonesia. Given how rare they are and how seldom they come near the surface, it's not surprising that they were not found until 1938.
