How to Do an Awake Nasal Intubation

The nasal root is in many ways preferable. But it has some major limitations. For example you may cause nose bleeds with a nasal approach and that can be not only make it more difficult or impossible to intubate but also pose the risk of aspiration and laryngeal spasm. So when you go in the nose and come out into the oral pharynx you are directed more directly at the cords than you are if you went in the mouth. The nasal root there are several things you want to do. Now many of these things are common to both the nasal and oral root, so we'll talk about them here.
