Grisilda Blanco was born in Tocota Medellin, Colombia's second largest city. As a teenager she became a pickpocket and at 16 ran away from her mother's house to escape her mother's abusive boyfriend. She married a sort of low-level forger called Carlos Trujillo. Grisilda herself allegedly shot the boy in the head when his family failed to pay the ransom on time. But by its nature, so much of what we know about these cartels is about myth anyway - because they operate through secrecy and fear.
