The Importance of Perception
When we're attached to that which in its nature changes, we suffer because we're out of harmony with how things are actually happening. What happens in the meditation practice through a refinement of perception is that we begin to be aware of consciousness also arising and passing many times against it. As we pay more and more careful attention and experience this arising and passing away of consciousness, that's a powerful, deconditioning of the sense of self. So what we are is a pairwise progression of knowing an object, knowing of a sound coming and going on the sight coming and go on the smell of a thought, a sensation.
