The Importance of Tone in Language

I would be cautious of using optimality theory for most things, but for stress mainly because you don't know whether the whole word is even or odd. There are some quote unquote pitch accent systems where like the tone is basically being assigned based on metrical units. I didn't like fully research that my own like knowledge of tone comes primarily from study of Chinese. But just having an idea and like playing with it a little bit, it may be useful if you're building a language that benefits from it.
