There are between about 1,000 and 1,500 owls total on the island of Principé. It appears that this tiny population is found exclusively in approximately 35 square kilometers or just over 13 square miles of the remote old-growth forest. There is a real risk that any changes to that ecosystem could have negative effects on the owl population.
