Day 33: Locusts, Darkness, and Death of the Firstborn (2024)

The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)

Pharaoh's Frustration and Final Plague

In this chapter, Pharaoh's servants express their frustration with Moses and Aaron's plagues and urge Pharaoh to let the Israelites go to serve their God. Pharaoh finally agrees, but only allows the men to go. Moses insists that everyone, including the young, the old, and even their flocks and herds, must go for a feast to the Lord. After being driven out of Pharaoh's presence, Moses stretches out his hand and a swarm of locusts covers the entire land of Egypt, destroying all the plants and trees. Pharaoh then calls Moses and Aaron, admitting his sinful ways and asking for forgiveness. Moses prays to the Lord, and a strong wind blows the locusts into the Red Sea. However, Pharaoh's heart remains hardened, and the ninth plague, darkness, is brought upon Egypt.
