The Influence of Tunisia on Foucault

Foucault says Tunisia was a political awakening for him and that it was the events, particularly of March 68 in Tunisia rather than May 68 in Paris. He gets caught up in the student protests against the Habib-Bargiba regime. A lot of his students end up having very long prison sentences or getting severely beaten by the police on the university campus. So, Foucault has a slight skepticism towards the likely heroic myth of 68 in France, after he returns.
