Memetic theory is kind of a four step process. Gerard's thinking plays out in four steps. Its humans have this propensity to imitate what other people want. So momatic desire leads to rivalry, which leads to contagion and polarization. I think we see that in national politics right now. There's an enormous amount of pressure to choose sides. We have lit miss tess. Everybody's got to choose a side, man with everything.
In this episode of Infinite Loops we spoke with Luke Burgis, author of the book 'Wanting: The Power of Mimetic Desire in Everyday Life'. We talk about:
- Needs vs. Desire
- The current state of social media
- 'Celebristan' and 'Freshmanistan'
- How to identify fake "experts"
- Scapegoating and Mimetic Violence
- And a LOT more!
