We can make the black box smaller and simpler. Right now we have one gigantic black box that does everything. We could factor that down into maybe a hundred black boxes, one of which is the thing that controls attention. If we factored it out and had more dedicated circuitry that did fixed jobs ... It would make it much easier to understand what's going on inside these systems.
