Socrates himself is only going to speak the truth without regard to whether it's quote unquote convincing or not. And this is what sets up this whole problem about how speech can be used, I think. Once you get a sense of what's at stake between dialectic and rhetoric, even at its best for Socrates, then you can have a sense ofwhat could usefully be symbolic of it.
