I imagine a lot of companies start out just with the simplest data integration between backend database and some paid SaaS platform. But then inevitably you start offering more products, developing more questions to answer. Third party platforms only scale so far because they're built for the masses right. You can submit as many feature requests to those products as you want all day long but until enough other users and clients ask for the same thing you're not going to get it. If you don't have the right people seeking those answers and and that know the data and know how to work with it then then the tools really don't matter.
