How to Change a Person's Mind
Kimberly Cevallos: I was not trying to change his mind, but he knew that I had put him up. There's a really interesting book called Rising Out of Hatred about some college students who wanted to change the beliefs or challenge the beliefs of a white nationalist. She says if you go into it thinking, my goal in this conversation is not to change this person's mind, but to improve my own thinking and sharpen my own arguments then all of a sudden, even if you don't change the person'smind, the conversation is worthwhile. "I think we need to do more of that these days," she says.
