Are You Trying to Get the Most Out of Your University?

Most people don't want to learn that much, including students at alete universities. People who really do want to learn take it upon themselves to get the bang for their buck. I think what's more of an issue is the quality of teaching itself. And one of the reasons we don't do a very good job is that the psychological model upon which most professors base their teaching is mistaken. It turns out to be false for two reasons: One because learning is highly compartmentalized and only by practising can you become good at something. So there's an extensive literature on what's called 'f f transferability' The second reason is that even smart people will not actually use this skill
