St. Peter's remains set off the trajectory of this whole Catholic past, he says. "To think that his mortal remains would have been cared for and beloved since the time of his death is truly extraordinary" His grave had been preserved and honored such that today his remains lie directly under the high altar in the world's largest Catholic church.
