The Dual Process Account of the Brain
In trying to understand the strange details of human behavior, psychologists or economists sometimes refer to a dual process account. Sigmund Freud suggested three competing parts in his model of the psyche. In the 1950s, neuroscientist Paul McLean suggested that the brain is made of three layers which represent successive stages of evolutionary development.
