What's in This Inflation Number?
Inflation has come down from 6.7% year over year to now 5.6%. Shelter is a big component, it's 43% of the number of shelter. So what's happening with shelter costs, rents and owners equivalent rent? Well, the chart here shows they've been coming down. That's real time. They're decelerating. Currently they're going up at a rate of 3.3% a year. But a year ago, they were going up at 18%. The problem with data is if you look at the year's data, it encompasses this entire period. And when we look at this, it kind of reminds me like a loop in a roller coaster
