The Death of My Stepmother

The images of him giving her the sleeping pills, and then smothering her with one of her pillows kept playing over and over again in my mind. As much as it sickened me, I had to pretend that everything was fine with my father until I figured out what to do. That meant I had to go help him bring groceries in like I normally would. When I saw the black door where their front door should be, I froze. I knew what I'd find behind it if I opened it. Death. Why? It was a thought spoken out loud as I tried to make sense of what I'd witnessed.
