Aaron Carroll has written a new book, automation and the future of work. He argues that jobs are being automated out of existence as machines become more intelligent. But he says we need to change society's basic institutions so people can earn an income in order to survive. The author also advocates universal base income without requiring people to work for it. "A world withot working could be quite a distopia"

Paris Marx is joined by Aaron Benanav to discuss why jobs are getting worse because the economy’s slowing down, not because technology is speeding up, and why that requires a vision of post-scarcity centered around human relationships instead of technological change.
