Chips Act - Is There Diversification Coming?
Many governments, not just the US, are putting more money towards trying to diversify the footprint of where we're building the most advanced chips. Taiwan's TSMC has announced new facilities in Arizona, in Japan and potentially also one in Singapore - which would be its first major investments outside of Taiwan or China in some time. I don't think we've got a pathway right now to reduce our dependence on chip making in East Asia in a dramatic way; as Chinese military power grows over the coming decade, this issue is going to become even more dangerous than less so.
