The History of the Multilateral Development Banks

The World Bank was set up as a credit cooperative. Because they're owned by all the states in the world, they can borrow money fairly cheaply and they can on lend that money to their member states. They start off with a credit cooperative arm, but a number of the multilateral development banks have also established, concessional lending arms. The next big factor we are going to identify in the book is the shift in global hegemony from the U.S. to the U.K. Here the book highlights two related shifts in ideas. And then the next shift, I think, is ideational: With the Keynesian revolution shifting, thinking about the role of the state in managing the economy
