I think the more fundamentalist elements of Bitcoin are just a secular religion. They're things that people use to fill the God-shaped hole in their lives. Of course, Bitcoin is just literally a tool. But for a certain contingent, they elevate it far beyond that. And it's a lifestyle. There's purity tests. There's things you have to believe. It offers salvation, damnation, and that's the status quo.
