The way that we talk about reasoning and beliefs is very militaristic. Juliet, there's a time honored part of a curriculum sometimes called rhetoric or debating,. And it's often considered a virtue for politicians and journalists to master the techniques of persuasion and rhetoric. It sounds like there's some tension between what's often considered to be a virtue and the virtues promoted by the rationality community. You don't stay in the middle of the debate. That's not how debates work.
