I think the big difference between the corvids, and I argue the same with the chimpanzees, is that they probably don't understand life beyond a lifetime. We're not terribly good at future planning ourselves, but we at least understand that we might need to take action now in order to save the planet for our children or our grandchildren. So we have an understanding that life continues beyond our lifetime. Chimps don't have that though, do they? No, they don't. That's what I'm saying. And before a lifetime, the whole understanding of history, it's an obvious thing, isn't it? But that's what storytelling, that's what reading and writing gives you
