When zolinski flew out of the country to speak to european leaders, there was a thought he might flee. He instead said, i woke up in kive, and i'll go to bed in kive to night. It does pretty dramatically bolster the great man theory of history. We can't say what the russians would or wouldn't have been able to do, militarily in the absence of a figure like zolinksi. But what we can know is the effect linski had. And it wasn't just that he said, i'm staying, we're fighting.
