Nubia was a dynamic place packed full of long lived cultures that were intimately connected to ancient egypt. The first complex societies in inner africa developed in nubia. From nubia, nubia produced state structures of its states that looked much different than their egyptian neighbors to the north. A huge amount of archaeological work has been done in sudan over the last couple of decades. And we now have absolute mounds of evidence spanning thousands of years,. Evidence that offers us whole new narratives of nubia's history. We can reevalue nubia’s relationship with egypt, but we can also understand the societies there on their own terms
