The author of a new book on the political impact of religious labels. He found that people who describe themselves as secular in various ways, as non religious, or even as atheists, are less likely to vote for atheist candidates. The strongest evidence so far is that Americans tend to see those who lack faith in god as untrustworthy and unpatriotic.
