The Problem With the Confederate Statue
Howard Baskerville was a Presbyterian missionary, an American who traveled to Persia and spread the gospel according to Jesus Christ. He was educated at Princeton when Woodrow Wilson was president; he took a class with him. I don't see a direct connection between Baskerville and race but I'm almost certain it would be unacceptable in our present day. It's like we progress in our thinking about issues by over a century and then retroactively we take the moral sensibility that has been evolved from point A in 1907 to point B in 2023... We use it to judge the actions of the person at point A who didn’t have the benefit of hindsight and it just feels performative
