The Origins of Language

Theory of mind is an ordinal scale of cognitive complexity based on how many mindsets you can hold internally. In our daily lives, most of us operate at probably a second and a third order of intentionality pretty constantly. But primates are very good at projecting their mental states onto their contemporaries, generally speaking. And so when we come back to kind of the evolution of the human group, it's basically tracking your relationships with each other.
