i think what's harder for us in our modern context is the responsiveness of god, that he's consistent to respond according to his character and according to how people respond to him. For a lot of people it does conflict with that immutability or unchangeable nature of god. It means god just chooses to be gracious above and beyond what people deserve - which i guess is the meaning of grace in the first place.
