Katya is always finding ways to see herself as inferior and maybe that's the ultimate difference between them. Tanya seems to direct her shame outwards rather than inwards. I think it's a good example of we can skip quote unquote some of the boring stuff and put in the highlights and then move to the relationship that as readers, we are more invested in.
