There is also an argument, which i find pretty fascinating, that the constitution helped perpetuate slavery longer than it should have gone. The voting power that was given to the south due to the three fifths compromise meant that the south had more representatives in congress than they would have had other s. There's another interesting a problem that comes up with the articles of confederation. If we said that this would have been much better for the states to have more a sovereign power over their own citizens, without control of the federal government, because the states could definitely have become despotisms in their own right. So are we really putting our eggs in the right basket of freedom?
