The Hilltop Memorial
Chaplain Riddetsky got the hilltop memorial started in the spring of 2003. His unit lost a Marine in Iraq, killed just minutes after the invasion began. Months later, those Marines were back at Pendleton preparing for yet another deployment to Iraq. In time, three of the seven men who carried and pushed that first cross would themselves be memorialized on Hornor Ridge.
