I think there's a modern sensibility to that in the way that we have a pre-modern, more objective, realist fashion. The modern turn, you can day card, what have you is, moved to subjective subjectivity. Etienne Gils-Sohn gave lectures in 1955 at the National Gallery of Art and he defends modern art as being a return to what art ought to be. He says representational art focuses on imitation aspect and doesn't really add anything to the world, it just imitates it. Whereas art,. modern art is returning to the original sense of making, of poises, of art as a participation in creating something.
