The Epi-Clarose Law in Athens

An epi-claros, or aeress to the family property, was compelled by law to marry her nearest male relative on her father's side. Her husband had to have sex with her at least three times a month and be able to produce offspring. The next of kin did not have unconditional control over the property but held it in trust until their sons came of age - when they became its rightful owners.
